The dreadlocks was made from a combination of high quality yarn and thread, to make them soft but also sturdy with just the right amount of weight. While other people use cheap ropes as the base, I use a this combination to give them a more realistic look and feel. They are also secured with latex stoppers, as shown in the picture of the inside.
