This is a rare cold-pressed brass Egyptian Revival brooch in excellent vintage condition. The brooch is fashioned as a shield, with the outline formed of curved serpents, scarab wings, and a lotus crown. The centerpiece is the winged teal-green scarab made from celluloid. The scarab is in an open setting to reveal engraved hieroglyphics on its back. This is a documented design, produced through the 1920s and early 1930s. The earlier pieces are marked “patent pending” but this one has a patent number (#2066969). Changes to the design on the scarab's underside confirm that this piece was likely produced in the 1930s.
