Description

Product Name: Very Rare 1847 Leatherbound Maine Lawbook shop
This is very rare copy of "The Maine Townsman, or Laws for the Regulation of Towns: With Forms and Judicial Decisions, Adapted to the Revised Statutes of Maine," written by John P. Lord. This book served as a guide for local government officials & was a type of legal handbook published in each state that allowed people without formal legal training to know how to perform their official duties better. This is shop the 3rd edition published in Portland by Sanborn & Carter in 1847. It is signed on the inside of the back cover by it's former owner, Joseph Miller, Jr., a stock & lumber seller, of Lincolnville, Waldo County, ME. Joseph was the son of Joseph Miller, Sr., a probate judge, justice of the peace, & farmer. Joseph Jr. sketched a picture of a bird, possibly a woodpecker, on the back of the front cover across from the title page. Book is tightly bound, with some internal cracking at the inside, though the cover is firmly attached. Weight about 13 oz. Measures 4.75" x 7.5" x 1.25".
