The flaps shop to open the box don't appear to have any glue residue on them so I'm assuming that the three rounded corner pieces of tape holding each flap closed is part of the design of the manufacturer. So with that as far as I can tell this set is brand new. There's some damage to the box but none of the components have ever been removed, and therefore should not be damaged.
