This is an mid-century Turkish rug. It is hand knotted with all wool fiber on a cotton warp and weft as are the majority of all oriental rugs. The design is floral with some geometric features and the dyes used are not synthetic. shop It is a country rug not made in a factory but likely by one person on a home loom. It has a central field wit a number floral elements. It has approximately 80 hand tied knots per square inch making it a coarse medium fine rug. It is red, white, green, blue and dark brown. It has significant abrash lines in the red field, a clear sign, along with the fact that it is somewhat wider at one end, that it is a village rug. This rug is in excellent condition for its age, has no worn spots and no stains. I have been selling on eBay for 24 years and have 100% feedback under the name Acanthus. Oriental rugs need not be so expensive but be aware of machine made rugs as well as factory made hand-tied rugs using petrochemicals and poorly paid labor.
